Micro-Review #6: The Flick

by Annie Baker

A book review of a play? Don’t plays have to be seen rather than read? Nope. This one (find it at Amazon) is one of the best. It’s about the everyday lives of the people who sell you your popcorn at the local movie house. By turns heartbreaking and hilarious, this ode to movie fandom reminds you that every life is an important story waiting to be told. In the age of eat-your-broccoli social awareness, it’s also refreshing that there’s no preaching and no preciousness. It’s just a great story about people. Reviewed on July 23, 2020
